Chetana: Hello and welcome to the Chetana Show! Today we’re going to be talking about an important and controversial topic...gun control. Over the past decade in America, more than 100,000 people have been killed as a result of gun violence—and millions more have been the victim of assaults, robberies, and other crimes involving a gun. Many of these crimes were committed by people who never should have been able to purchase a gun in the first place. The vast majority of Americans—including gun owners—believe we must take sensible steps to address these horrible tragedies. Gun control is a serious issue especially in today’s society and today we will be having a debate between some supporters and non supporters of gun control. We have some†¦show more content†¦For example, if you’re gonna restrict guns, you have to restrict knives, too. Knives are very dangerous! Maybe equally as dangerous as guns! But in the end, it is not the weapo n that is the problem, it’s the people. So, gun control would be pointless. Chetana: On Dec. 14, 2012, a man using a knife assaulted people at a school in Chempeng, China, stabbing 23 children and one adult. Later that day, a man armed with an AR-15 attacked an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, shooting 20 students and eight adults. At Sandy Hook, all 20 children and six of the eight adults died. In China, there wasn’t a single fatality. The gun made all the difference. AJ: This tragedy was sadly only one of the endless shootings in America. Although people are the root of the problem of violence, you cannot ignore the fact that guns intensify it. A better example of violence that shows just how important gun control is was at a Pennsylvania high school in 2014 when a student went on a five-minute stabbing spree, wounding 22 people but killing none.
